How to publish your research

How to write a paper

 In short follow these points:

  • Make clear what do you want to say. Formulate it in one sentence.
  • Think about this: you are doing research - trying to solve a problem: what is the problem, why are you trying to solve it, how are you solving, what have you done, who cares?
  • Prepare brief outlines (what are you saying in the paragraphs), make the figures.
  • Take the figures and seek a colleague: using the figures tell him the story.
  • Change outlines and figures according to the feedback, you may look out someone else to get even more opinions.
  • Write the first version. Now, you know what you want to say. This should be supported by the data and discussed in view of current knowledge in the field. Stay focused: do not try to write everything you know or do not show other interesting results; this distracts the attention.
  • Wait for some time, rewrite what you had written before. Now it is time to give the manuscript out to your colleagues.
  • To prepare the manuscript it usually takes several weeks.
  •  If you have final version approved by all coauthors you can submit and hope it will go well.
