Fotka TomasSikolaTomáš Šikola is Professor of applied physics at the Brno University of Technology (BUT, Czech Republic), director of “Institute of Physical Engineering” (BUT, Czech Republic), coordinator of CEITEC “Advanced Nanotechnologies and Microtechnologies” research program and leader of “Fabrication and Characterisation of Nanostructures” research group there. His present research interests are in nanoscale science, fabrication of nanostructures and investigation of their functional properties, plasmonics and development of analytical and measurement methods and instruments. Prof. Šikola is a respected expert in the fields of preparation and characterization of nanoscale structures. He has authored and co-authored over 60 scientific publications, was the principal organizer of 7 international summer schools on “Physics at nanoscale”, the member of advisory committees to universities, professional societies and international conferences, and the Councilor of the Czech Republic in the International Union for Vacuum Science, Technique and Applications (IUVSTA). During the initial evaluation of scientific quality by CEITEC International Scientific Advisory Board his group received the highest possible mark.Prof. Šikola provides ample experience in the coordination of nanoscience and technology programs at the national and international level; he was one of the leading scientists who initiated and prepared the CEITEC project. During the past 20 years Prof. Šikola has been supervising more than 20 PhD students.
